Ibo Groups Clash In Kumasi Over Manhyia Visit

Two Ibo groups in Ghana have clashed in Kumasi in the Ashanti region over a planned visit to the palace of the Ashanti Monarch, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The confusion was triggered after one Eze Indi Igbo and a group of Ibos from Accra had clandestinely gone round and introduced himself to the Asantehene and the Ashanti regional minister as the king of Ibos in Ghana.

The move has, however, angered the Ibo community in Kumasi who have openly denounced him. They have petitioned the Asantehene and the regional minister to resist recognizing Indi Igbo as head of the Ibo community.

Speaking to ghnewsnow, spokesperson for the Ibo residents in Kumasi Ikenna Molokwu said the group from Accra is alien to the Ibo community in Ghana.

“We had information that a group was coming from Accra and they are coming in their capacity as the king of the Ibos and their colleagues; we don’t know them. The Ibos don’t have a king, we have not coronated any king here. And if they are actually coming to represent us, we should know them, we don’t know their motives.

“We hear they are going to see the regional minister and the Police commander; we don’t know why because we don’t have any problem with anybody. We see them when we need to,” he fumed.
