Three Teachers injured one collapses After Angry Residents Attack

Seven Teachers of Osei Kwadwo District Assembly (D/A) Junior High School (JHS) at Atrama near Adjako Buoho of the Afigya Kwabre district in the Ashanti region have been hospitalised after residents of the area vented their spleen on them for whipping a female pupil.

Teachers at the school were subjected to severe beatings by angry residents this afternoon and had to run for cover when they were chased with machetes, stones and canes.

About five teachers sustained various degrees of injuries and are now receiving treatment at the hospital.

Agya Boakye, a management member of the school explained that they received a report that unknown residents of the village had attacked teachers of the school.

‘We were at home when we got reports that boys from the village had beaten up teachers from the school. Their reason for the attack being that, they didn’t understand why one of the teachers had to punish a pupil only identified as Doris and left marks on her hand. So they went to the school and attacked them,’ he said.

According to him, one of the teachers collapsed and with the help of other residents, he was rushed to the hospital.

‘One of the teachers collapsed and was rushed to the hospital with two others.  The remaining four who were also injured were taken to the Ahenkro Police station to lodge a complaint,’ he indicated.

Agya Boakye who expressed shock over the conduct of the residents, said if the teachers do not return to the school by tomorrow, they might have to close it down.

‘This is the first time am seeing a case of this nature. We are looking forward to getting some of the teachers back in the classroom to teach tomorrow. If they don’t come back, then the school might have to close down since there would be no teachers to teach,’ he stated.
