Her Excellency Rev. Dr. Ocansey is challenging and encouraging today’s youth to build ‘Peace Chests’ instead of ‘War Chests’. The building of these Peace Chests she believes will help the youth to understand, develop skills to effectively prevent conflict and de-escalate existing conflicts. Dr. Ocansey made this appeal to members of the National Cadet Corps of Ghana and the UK during a courtesy call on the Minister Of Youth And Sports, Honorable Dr. Alhaji Mustapha Ahmed over the week.

The U.K corps are visiting Ghana as part of the activities to mark the sixtieth (60th) anniversary of the establishment of cadet corps in Ghana. The group is an advanced party led by Wing Commander Stuart McNeill and Squadron Leader James Roberts. This year Ghana will host the second International Expedition from 8th July to 26th July, 2015.
While in Ghana, the cadets will be camping and training in warfare. In this light, Her Excellency saw the need for the youth to be encouraged to learn to engage conflict with purpose and goals rather than reacting. She called on them to apply mediation skills to achieve cooperation and build collaborative relationships through Peace Chests.
Peace chest is an ideology that believes in saving money and improving your skills and resources to prepare for peace. Developing a ‘Peace Chest’ is a decision to focus on teamwork, problem solving and interest based negotiation rather than threats or power. A strong peace chest promotes harmony, encourages self-empowerment and provides for healing.
Nene Nagai Kasa Chief of Shai and a former Minister of Tourism known in private life as Hon. Mike Afedi Gizo, the National Cadet Coordinator General of Ghana, Mr. Nicholas Nii Tettey-Amarteifio, and the Head of Public Relations Ministry of Youth And Sports Mr. Oto Plahar were all present to grace the occasion.
Her Excellency Rev. Dr. Princess Ocansey is a migration expert, Global Peace Ambassador, Professional Engineer, World Renowned Philanthropist and a Business Woman. She is the chairperson of the Nekotech Center of Excellence in Ada, CEO of Channels Of Blessings Global Ministry and Transfer2Transform (a charitable organization in British Columbia Canada) and the CEO of SOS Labour Ghana Ltd, an award winning international job placement agency in Ghana/Canada.
