Maya Angelou Dies Aged 86

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. USA — Author, poet and civil rights activist Maya Angelou has died. She was 86.
Allen Joines Mayor of Winston-Salem North Carolina, confirmed Angelou was found by her caretaker on Wednesday morning.
Born Marguerite Ann Johnson, the revered icon who was hailed as one of the great voices of contemporary literature had been reportedly battling health problems. She recently canceled a scheduled appearance at a special event in her honor.
Angelou was a celebrated poet, novelist, educator, producer, actress, filmmaker and civil rights activist. She received more than 50 honorary degrees and will be remembered for her works like ‘I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings’.
